What are cookies and browser storage?
Cookies are small text files that a website or service places on a device through a browser. Similar technologies include local storage, which allows a browser to retain a preference without sending it with every request. These technologies can support basic operation, remember choices or help an operator understand website use.
Some storage is set directly by the website being visited. Other storage can be set by an external service included on a page. The duration may be limited to a browsing session or may continue until an expiry point or manual deletion.
Categories used or supported
| Category | Purpose | Choice | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Stores the consent selection and supports security or basic website operation. | Operates where necessary for the requested service. | Session-based or retained until cleared. |
| Functional | Remembers optional interface settings or user-selected features. | Enabled only when selected. | Depends on the feature or until cleared. |
| Analytics | Measures broad patterns such as page use, navigation and technical performance. | Enabled only after consent where consent is required. | Depends on the measurement service or until cleared. |
The cookie banner records a choice in local storage under the key feedflick-cookie-choice. This prevents the banner from being displayed on every page and allows the site to apply the selected categories. Essential storage does not depend on acceptance of optional categories.
Consent choices
“Accept All” permits essential, functional and analytics categories. “Reject Non-Essential” limits operation to essential storage. “Preferences” opens controls for optional functional and analytics categories. Where a selection is saved, the website records that preference in the browser.
Consent can be withdrawn by clearing website data for this domain and making a new choice when the banner returns. If a dedicated preference control is added elsewhere on the site, it may also be used to update the stored choice. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
Analytics services
Analytics technologies may process page addresses, approximate location derived from an Internet Protocol address, device and browser details, referring information, interactions and visit timing. Their purpose is to help identify broad usage patterns and technical problems rather than to make decisions about an individual visitor.
Optional measurement is controlled through the analytics preference. If an external analytics provider is introduced, its processing, cookie names, retention and international transfer arrangements will be assessed and reflected in this policy and the consent mechanism before use.
Browser controls and opt-out
Most browsers allow users to inspect, delete and block cookies or site data. Controls are usually found under privacy, security or site settings. A browser may permit blocking for one domain, blocking third-party cookies, deleting data on exit or clearing all stored data.
Blocking essential site storage may cause the banner to return or prevent a preference from being remembered. Blocking functional storage may stop selected interface options from persisting. Blocking analytics storage should not prevent access to public editorial content.
Private browsing modes generally limit how long storage persists, but behaviour varies between browsers. Browser “Do Not Track” signals are not interpreted consistently across online services; direct cookie and site-data controls provide a clearer way to manage storage.
